I Am Birmingham began an online video project in 2009 with the mission to showcase the best of Birmingham, England’s second largest and most cosmopolitan city.
It has since evolved into an online news magazine, featuring articles, news, reviews, interviews, special features, galleries, video and multimedia content; offering a non-profit platform for young writers, media students and enthusiasts and passionate reporters and content creators.
Alongside written and pictorial features, we create videos about the coolest aspects of Birmingham culture, arts, lifestyle and give an insight into everyday events, personality profiles and quirky titbits.
We welcome contributions, content suggestions and ideas and especially love focussing on aspects of Birmingham life that may have been missed in the mainstream, from urban exploring to street art secrets; and cosplay culture to the underground city poetry and music scene.
The website has broken a number of national and international viral stories as well as leading socially powerful news features that have been picked up by global media outlets and audiences. Additionally, our video work has been included in mainstream news reports across continents, as well as documentaries created by the BBC and Channel 4.
With a Twitter following of over 50,000+ and millions of views on our videos, we hope to continue to champion both citizen journalism and an opportunity for new writers and filmmakers to reach out and inspire others.
