Around 200 of protesters have marched through the streets of Birmingham city centre today in solidarity with LGBT individuals in Chechnya, who have been reportedly rounded up by Government officials and persecuted in the Eastern European country.

Standing in support of the victims of what has been described as State brutality, campaigners marched from the LGBT Centre in Holloway Circus to Victoria Square, where they gathered for a protest rally condemning the alleged human rights abuses. Read the rest of this entry »

Hundreds of Pokémon fans dressed in creepy costumes and took to the streets on Saturday, as they played popular game Pokémon Go to help raise money for charity.

The special Halloween-themed Pokéwalk, inspired by and incorporating popular gaming app Pokémon Go, began in Victoria Square with a long trail of fancy dress fundraisers snaking their way around Birmingham city centre while cheering, chanting, posing for photos and surprising passers-by. On Thursday evening I was given the particularly special opportunity of attending The Alchemist VIP night, before it’s grand opening to the public on Monday, and I thought I’d bring along an alcohol connoisseur and good friend of mine, George Bandy.

While dark and mysterious on the exterior The Alchemist hides a bright and vibrant cocktail bar within.
The moment you enter you are greeted with bright copper, brass and leather visuals reminiscent of a steampunk utopia. Read the rest of this entry »

In July, Birmingham held its first ever Pokéwalk , riding the wave of international buzz surrounding Pokémon Go, a gaming app that’s taken the world by storm after being released by Nintendo and Niantic Labs to mark the Pokemon franchise’s twentieth anniversary.

Taking its cue from similar events being held around the country – and indeed, other parts of the world – the Pokéwalk concept was created to merge the explorative nature of the game with socialising and networking skills, essentially meeting new friends. Read the rest of this entry »

A special Halloween themed charity Pokéwalk, inspired by and incorporating popular gaming app Pokémon Go, is to take place in Birmingham next month.

Following on from the successful Pokémon walk in July, during which fans of the franchise walked through the city streets catching Pokémon to raise money for charity, the event will once again be taking place in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Read the rest of this entry »

A mass Pokémon Go flashmob walk is set to take place in Birmingham city centre this weekend, with hundreds expected to attend as the Nintendo gaming craze continues to grip the country.

Co-organised by Birmingham mega fans of the latest gaming trend to hit city streets, the aptly named Pokéwalk was announced on July 15 and since amassed the interest of 1,500 people on its Facebook page. Read the rest of this entry »
