Around 200 of protesters have marched through the streets of Birmingham city centre today in solidarity with LGBT individuals in Chechnya, who have been reportedly rounded up by Government officials and persecuted in the Eastern European country.

Standing in support of the victims of what has been described as State brutality, campaigners marched from the LGBT Centre in Holloway Circus to Victoria Square, where they gathered for a protest rally condemning the alleged human rights abuses. Read the rest of this entry »

Due to overwhelming demand, master magician Dynamo has added an extra 11 shows to his critically acclaimed UK tour, Seeing Is Believing, including three Birmingham performances taking place later this month.

Around 30 people turned out for a Million Mask March event in Birmingham yesterday, which was held to coincide with the larger official November 5th demonstration in London.

Amidst scenes of police confrontations and burning vehicles in the capital, the turnout in Birmingham garnered a much smaller show of support, with minor scuffles between protesters and police.  Read the rest of this entry »

The spectacle that is The Australian Pink Floyd Show arrived back at the Birmingham NIA for part of their Set The Controls Tour.

With a packed out audience, the show was separated into two sets, the first being a tour long list, and the latter being selected by the audience online before the show.

Beatlemania was reborn in Birmingham this week, as the New Alexandra Theatre set its stage for the jukebox musical, Let It Be.

Directed by John Maher, the iconic tribute to the fab four takes you on a magical mystery tour through the Beatles musical career.
First stop is 1962 back in Liverpool at the Cavern Club, where the band’s rock and roll legacy began and last stop, was 1969 for the historic, Abbey Road album.

An estimated 15,000 people joined a public sector trade unions march through Birmingham this afternoon, despite the city council refusing to agree a route following a dispute over road closures.

Thousands of individuals on and supporting the national N30 strike ‘snaked’ through the city streets without official permission after the Birmingham City Council had demanded unions to pay up to £10,000 for road closures. Despite this obstruction, which many strikers felt the Tory-Lib Dem council had deliberately put up in support of the Coalition Government, trade unions including Unison, the NUT, GMB and PCS went ahead with the city centre demonstration; marching from from Lionel Street to the National Indoor Arena for a specially called conference. JLS have added a third Birmingham date to their forthcoming tour

They only announced that they would be bringing their ‘4th Dimension’ tour to the LG Arena this month, but thanks to sell-out dates JLS have added a third date to their LG Arena stint. In addition to 16 and 17 March, the boys will return to the Midlands on 17 April to give fans a chance to see them live.

With five Number 1 singles and two Platinum albums already under their belt, JLS have secured their place as one of the UK’s biggest boybands. Their long-awaited third is album due out on 14 November 2011, giving fans the chance to get acquainted with their new material ahead of the 2012 tour. Read the rest of this entry »
